Smacked right in the middle of Central Region’s famous landmarks –the National Museum, the vibrant Bugis, quaint Little India, all the way up to Bukit Timah, Rochor– is Singapore’s district for budding arts, culture, and education.
And where there is beautiful architecture and rich cultural heritage, there always are excellent cafes crafting the best drinks and grub that heightens the unique sensory experience.
Let’s jump right into our top 5.
Airy, very spacious, and comfortably lit with natural daylight, this cafe at LaSalle College of the Arts offers a selection of comfort food and specialty coffee (and excitingly, a decent list of beer and wine options at the Uppercase pop-up Bistro).
We love the Eggvocado Pesto Slider at $8.80 and the Chai Latte at $2.35.
Get your caffeine fix from Monday-Tuesday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Wednesday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 10:30 PM, and Saturday from 11:00 AM – 10:30 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
The Wired Monkey
If you find yourself in Rochor on a Sunday morning, treat yourself into a nice brunch at this different yet comfortable cafe at 5 Dunlop Street.
The awesome thing about brunch here is that you can have a really good Beef Burger ($12) of 180 gms. fresh grilled beef, swiss cheese, house slaw and potato fries. Burger for brunch? How cool is that? Their pastries such as the spiced date and walnut cake is divine when paired with their specialty latte using beans blended by Tiong Hoe.
They welcome customers from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.
Zeppelin and Co.
Singapore’s first Audio Cafe, Zeppelin & Co. is a shrine for audiophiles and coffee lovers.
They carry a wide selection of high-end IEMs, headphones, and other audio-visual equipment which you can try (and purchase) while savoring a pot of Jibun Sencha tea ($8.50). Check their “cake of the day” ($7.00) for a complete sensory treat.
This very cozy and unique place at 1 Rochor Canal Road welcomes clients from Tuesday to Sunday, 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM.
If you’re looking for a really nice place for a quiet brunch date, we highly recommend this cafe at 17 Jalan Pinang. With its soothing interior, awesome menu, and extra friendly service, you’re in for a memorable date.
We swear by the Chicken and Pancakes ($19) washed down with a hot Long Black ($4.5) and perhaps a dessert of Coco Espresso ($18) to make your heart aflutter.
Get your seat from 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM on weekdays, and weekends from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
The Cat Cafe
With over 9,000 likes on Facebook, it’s hard to dismiss this cafe at 241B Victoria Street for their purrfect coffee experience with gentle rescued felines.
At $16 (First 2 hours) you can sit and enjoy a complimentary drink while getting to know the resident handsome cats.
They welcome customers aged 6 and above, from 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM daily, except Monday at 3:00PM – 10:00PM.
The cafe culture is indeed a part of many Singaporean’s ways of enjoying life. From the traditional kopitiam to the third-gen cafes, each district always has something different to offer, especially in the hip Rochor area.
